We found the Pemi Cabins in a Google search for dog friendly lodging in the White Mountains. The website makes it look very inviting and my husband and I were excited to take our one-year old and our dog there.

When we got there, the cabins were not what we expected. We understood them to be somewhat rustic, but ours had a mildewed smell to it. The television in our room wouldn't work properly. The wood we bought from them for the fireplace (we were very excited about having a fire) wouldn't burn. They do offer complimentary coffee but unfortunately the posted office hours (where the coffee is) are from 8:30 to 8:30. We were up for a while before they were open and ended up going out for coffee. Then, on two of the three nights we were there, the office was closed closer to 6:00 pm and a note was posted on the door that said they were closed for the evening.

When we brought some of this to the owners, the husband just walked out of the office after making a face and the woman told us that while she was sorry we weren't happy, if we wanted to leave we could and they would give us a refund for the nights we weren't going to stay as long as they could rent out the room.

With all this said, I would not give them a rating of one star (terrible), probably two, "okay, but some problems". What gives them the lowest rating is all that I have already mentioned along with the fact that they didn't enforce their own rules and some dogs staying there were off leash. Combine that with the fact that we saw at least three pit bulls, and two of them were off leash, was enough for me to want to leave after the first night.

My husband suggested we stick it out since we don't take many vacations but I can tell you, I was nervous about our little boy and about our small dog being around those roaming dogs. Especially the pitbulls.
