We know you have many choices of places to stay during your visit. Why would you choose Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast over a standard hotel? There are, of course, features that a standard hotel can offer that we cannot, for instance a front desk staffed by an employee 24 hours a day or a computerized voice waking you in the morning. We understand how hectic traveling can be. We can offer you some personal touches that most locations cannot provide affordably. The Magnolia House is an elegant Victorian home built in 1903 by the Duerr Family. The grand architecture of an earlier age is marked by an array of ornately decorated interior and exterior architecture which includes: main and back staircases, a butler's pantry, window seat, stained glass, two porches, hardwood floors, and finely finished wood trim.

* If you need a gift to take home for other members of your family, let us do the shopping for you. We can get gifts with local foods, or a classy gift that would be good for any occasion.
* Perhaps you've had a last-minute dinner invitation while you are here and you need a hostess gift to take with you. Tell us the type of gift you would like to take and let us do the rest.
* Let us help you with some travel arrangements. Sometimes during your travels, it is not possible for you to check on the status of your own flights. Let us check on your flights for you and let you know before you go.
* Tired of eating out during your stay? You are welcome to prepare other meals for yourself in our kitchen. Or perhaps one day the smell and taste of steak on the grill appeals to you. The back yard contains a stone barbecue pit for charcoal or wood. Wood is available for your use.
* If your visit brings you to our city during the winter, and you are yearning for a crackling fire in the fireplace, we can accommodate you. We have enough firewood for the house to keep your fire crackling all evening.
* Also for that winter time stay, ask about garage parking for your car and be one of the select few that doesn't have to scrape your windows.
* For long-term guests, ask about the availability of laundry service free of charge.

Are you a chili fan? Come enjoy the Chili CookOff on Main Street New Martinsville, WV on October 22. Businesses, organizations, and private individuals make their best pot of this "strictly American" stew brew and compete for the distinction of having the best chili. Chili has both legendary origins and spiritual beginnings. It has been called by many different names from various sources as the "bowl of blessedness" or the "soup of the devil". The chili pepper is believed to have some health benefits as a digestive aid and some believe it gives a boost to the romantically inclined. Whatever your reason to enjoy it, chili is a welcome food on a crisp, cool day. Magnolia House is itself the 2001 champion in the Best Chili by a Business category.
